A unique hiring process – we pay you to interview

We’ve found that the best candidates shine most when they are able to participate directly with the team and show their skills in action. This does require some work from you, so we’ll pay you to join the team during a “paid interview”.
Assuming your submission exceeds expectations, we will reach out to schedule a few informal conversations with our team to learn more about you, and provide an opportunity for you to ask questions of us. If all goes well for both you and Cro Metrics, we will hire you for a paid interview where you start working with us for approximately one week (12-15 hours max) as a 1099 contractor. This can be done on the side of your current full-time job so there is less risk to you.
If both parties like working together, we expand the relationship into a full time W2 role. If not, we go our separate ways and both sides “won” in the deal.

Senior Software Engineer

With over 35k active users for our essential Shopify apps we’ve followed the rapid growth of Shopify and are looking to add a senior engineer to our 100% remote team of five.
As a Senior Software Engineer you’ll have worked with React and Rails before and developed a decent-sized web app using the Flux pattern (with Redux, Flux or Alt). You can both architect software, building it from the ground up, and maintain existing systems in a thoughtful way.
Just as important is how you approach problems and work in the team. We don’t want someone who puts their headphones on for three days and churns out code. Your instinct is to collaborate.
You’ll work closely with our product manager to gather requirements, come up with technical solutions, present these in a clear non-technical way and agree on what to do.
You’ll both mentor and learn from our software engineer through code reviews and working on problems together. And you’ll help the team understand your changes, how best to test them and be responsive in fixing bugs.
We’re 100% remote across different timezones so clear, regular communication is key. Your location isn’t important as long as there’s a roughly 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time.
You’re experienced in working remotely and have found a schedule and setup that works best for you. If that’s a coworking space we can pay for that, but that’s optional since you decide where you’re at your most productive.
Skills & Experience
  • 1+ years backend experience (Rails, Laravel, Django etc.)

  • 2+ years React with Redux, Flux or Alt

  • 5+ years software engineering

  • Have worked on web apps, ideally B2B SaaS

  • Software architecture

  • Have used a few different software patterns

  • Very collaborative

  • Clear non-technical communicator

  • Have worked remotely

  • Curious about new technologies

  • Ideally have worked with Kanban
Full time, 100% remote from any location with a 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time. We believe strongly in work/life balance with reasonable hours (usually 37.5 hours or occasionally more when required). We’re a UK company with compensation and paid time off to match.

Billing Manager

You’re the kind of person who can dial into the details. Get the answer to the client. Own the process. But the bottom line isn’t just in dollars and cents. It’s in empathy. It’s not about checking boxes, it’s about the customer when you become our next Part-Time Billing Administrator at Customer.io.
Across departments, you’ll be Sales, Engineering, and Operation’s go-to to make sure we’re getting paid. A typical day in the life might include…
  • 5 half days from home, communicating with our customers to answer questions about invoices, follow up when our automated failed payment notifications don’t work, clarify for our pricing works, and correcting the occasional billing mistake or adjustment.
  • Helping our Sales Team to close deals by collecting signatures for Service Agreements and Service Orders and setting up our internal custom pricing for our new customer.
  • Manually invoice customers; generating invoices, tracking payments, updating Stripe to record accurately, and tracking renewals.
  • Consulting with our Engineering team to work on current bugs in the pricing systems and brainstorming solves for pain points.
Your days can happen in any time zone, on any continent. We don’t mind where you are. At $20 USD / hour for 20 hours a week (with room for advancement) PLUS about $20,000 per year in other benefits [Think adoption benefits, 10 days of PTO for part-time employees, and healthcare]. You can live the dream while we all pursue Customer.io’s dream of automating everyone’s product messaging.
PS – Bonus, but not required (shout about it in your application if you have experience)
  1. You have experience with legal contracts like MNDAs and Service Agreements, and have a general understanding of legal terminology (think indemnity and liability),
  2. You have worked with SaaS company or recurring billing cycles.
At Customer.io, we’re committed to building a diverse environment and encourage applicants from underrepresented groups. We want people with different backgrounds from the team we have today to bring their perspective and thoughtfulness to the work that we do and the culture we foster.
